Schuh Winery with wine restaurant, vinotheque & guesthouse

At a glance

In the Sörnewitz family business, winemaking craftsmanship and hospitality come together in a perfect way - discover, experience and enjoy!

The Schuh winery in Sörnewitz, not far from the porcelain town of Meissen, is an oasis for the palate and soul with its vinotheque and the estate's own wine restaurant, a meeting place for good taste in the Elbland region, just half an hour's drive from Dresden. Here, in the cool shade of a striking plane tree, guests can enjoy the winery's entire range of wines in a relaxed atmosphere, with advice from sommelier Katharina and her expert staff. Day trippers from the nearby Elbe cycle path can also take a short break here. Martina and her team serve culinary delights in the second courtyard of the winery - in summer in the Mediterranean ambience of the sun-drenched terrace and in winter in the stylish, rustic dining room. The finest seasonal dishes made from predominantly regional ingredients are created to match the wines from the Schuh estate. If you want to take more than just a day off, you should book a room in the guesthouse, simply indulge in slowing down and enjoy life without any stress over a glass of good wine.

Founded in 1990, the winery with its two estates in the village center of Sörnewitz is the perfect starting point or destination for hikers and walkers who want to explore the neighboring Spaargebirge mountains. The landscape conservation area boasts rustic forests, small estates with pretty front gardens, natural meadows and, of course, a large number of vineyards. A highlight is the view from the Boselspitze, a former quarry, which offers views across the Elbe Valley to Dresden and Saxon Switzerland. Nature lovers can discover plants that are particularly adapted to heat and drought in the TU Dresden botanical garden. The special microclimate of the Spaargebirge also benefits the vines, which produce the best grapes for unique wines.

The Schuh winery cultivates around five hectares of its own vineyards in the Spaargebirge. This includes the Klausenberg, a 3.5-hectare single vineyard, whose rows of vines stretch steeply down into the Elbe valley. Interested wine lovers can discover this special vineyard on guided hikes and learn directly from the winegrowers how the estate cultivates its vines by hand and in harmony with nature. Anyone who has ever experienced the impressive view over Meissen's old town with its striking castle and cathedral hill will quickly realize that winemaker and cellar master Matthias lets his gaze wander far over the horizon from here. This is exactly what the wines of the Schuh winery are characterized by - not only by the 850-year-old tradition of Saxon wine, but also by the experiences of other winegrowers from Germany and abroad, with whom the winemaker is in constant contact.
