Karl May (1842-1912), the creator of immortal novel heroes such as Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and Kara Ben Nemsi, has been the most popular and most widely read German writer for generations. In his former home, the Villa Shatterhand, you will discover May's eventful life and literary work and immerse yourself in the adventure cosmos of the Saxon novelist. This includes the famous collection of weapons with silver rifle, bear-killer and Henrystutzen, his study furnished with oriental pieces of furniture and the valuable library.
The rustic Wild West log cabin Villa Bärenfett holds a unique collection on the cultural-historical lifeworld of the Indian cultures of North America. The exhibition includes impressive ethnographic objects from the 18th to 20th centuries: Magnificently decorated clothing, elaborate carvings, imposing feather work and, above all, the life-size Indian figures delight visitors young and old from all over the world.
