Katharina Luther Room Torgau

At a glance

In 1552, the beautiful Renaissance residence became Katharina Luther's hospital and death house after she suffered a tragic accident while fleeing the plague in Wittenberg just outside Torgau from which she never recovered.

Using contemporary graphics and objects of everyday culture, the exhibition is dedicated to the biography of this extraordinary woman who was closely connected with her husband's Reformation activities. First prints of rare writings by Luther and Melanchthon provide insights into the intellectual environment of the time.
