The TV tower was constructed according to the architectural plans of Novotny and Braune and opened in 1969. It measures a total height of 252 metres to the top, including 167 metres of reinforced concrete shaft and 85 metres of antenna mast. It is the tallest structure in the city. The remarkable total weight is 7300 tonnes and rests on a round foundation of reinforced concrete. The viewing platform is 148 metres above the ground. Currently, the TV tower is closed to visitors.
