The Postplatz is located in Dresden's city centre and is the heart of the local public transport system, which in Dresden is provided by the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG. Since 2009, the wide square, which is open on many sides, has been marked by a huge stele that marks the central stops of the trams and buses.
On the edge of Postplatz is the Zwinger, the most important baroque building of all. Opposite the Kronentor is the Schauspielhaus, built in the first decade of the 20th century during the heyday of Art Nouveau. The Altmarkt-Galerie has been extended to the edge of the square.
