Blaudruckerei Folprecht

At a glance

The Folprecht blue print shop revives the ancient craft of blue printing and even offers visitors the opportunity to print themselves.

Blue printing is an ancient craft in which patterns are applied to fabrics such as linen by hand printing. It is a dyeing process through which white patterns are created on a blue background. In 2016, this centuries-old technique of fabric finishing was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Today, blue printing is only mastered by a few German companies. One preserver of this ancient craft is the Folprecht blue print shop based in Coswig. Since 1988, the workshop has been producing and selling hand-printed and blue-printed items made in the old tradition.

Whoever visits the workshop feels transported back to an old time. Interested people can gain an exciting insight into the craft and learn more about the history and technology of blueprinting during a guided tour of the workshop. In addition, the blueprint workshop offers courses where participants can make their own individual piece under expert guidance.
