Christmas Oratorio in the Kreuzkirche - a festive highlight

The performances of the Christmas Oratorio, Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous composition, in the Kreuzkirche Dresden by the famous Dresdner Kreuzchor, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and first-class soloists are an integral part of the Christmas season. Solemn opening and closing choruses, the glorious setting of the biblical Christmas story in the recitatives and enchanting arias by the vocal soloists characterise this wonderful work by Bach.

"Glory be to you, God, sung" can be heard on Saturday, 10 January at 5 pm. January at 5 pm in the Kreuzkirche Dresden when the Dresden Kreuzchor under the direction of Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann performs cantatas 4-6 of the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Although much of the magic of Christmas is nowadays brought forward to the Advent period until 26 December, Christmas traditionally continues until the Feast of Candlemas on 2 February, which commemorates the presentation of Jesus in the temple 40 days after his birth. The supposedly late performance of the Christmas Oratorio is therefore also in keeping with Johann Sebastian Bach's intention to perform the cantatas throughout the Christmas season.
