Route 3 branches off from the Elbe Cycle Path in the center of Dresden on the Neustadt side and leads past the Golden Rider to Albertplatz. Following in the footsteps of famous poets, painters and musicians, a visit to the Museum of Dresden Romanticism or the Erich Kästner Museum is worthwhile on this section. The author, who was born in Dresden in 1899, wrote many well-known children's books, such as "Emil and the Detectives" or "The Flying Classroom".
From Albertplatz, the route runs through the trendy district of Äußere Neustadt to the Prießnitztal valley on the Dresdner Heide. There you can take a detour to the left to the former Waldbad Klotzsche, which is now home to a climbing forest. The route follows the course of the stream and leads over historic stone bridges to the Heidemühle mill. After leaving the Dresdner Heide, the route follows the cycle path on the route of the former railroad line Weißig - Dürrröhrsdorf, which existed from 1906 to 1951. In Schönfeld you can make a detour to the Renaissance castle, which was built in the 16th century on the site of a medieval moated castle. Since 2005 it presents itself as a magic castle with events and exhibitions. Continuing along the old railroad embankment, you will reach Wünschendorf, where you will have a beautiful view of the Elbe valley between Pirna and Dresden at the end of the village.
In Porschendorf you leave the former railroad line and drive to Mühlsdorf. Here you can descend into the Liebethaler Grund to the Richard Wagner monument. With a total height of 12.50 meters, it is the largest Wagner monument in the world and depicts the composer as a Grail knight. Following the route, you will reach the Pirna district of Graupa. There, the new multimedia permanent exhibition on Richard Wagner's life and creative work was opened in 2013 in the hunting lodge.
Passing the natural lake Pirna-Copitz, you will soon reach the Elbe Cycle Path and ride to Dresden-Pillnitz. Originally a small fishing and farming village on the Elbe, Augustus the Strong had it converted into the summer residence of the Saxon court at the beginning of the 18th century. You have the option of either walking through Pillnitz Palace and Park or driving around the complex. A little off the route is the Carl Maria von Weber Museum. The composer rented a vintner's house during the summer months at the beginning of the 19th century and composed parts of "Freischütz," "Oberon" and the opera "Euryanthe" here, among others.
Passing the Schifferkirche Maria am Wasser, you will reach the Loschwitz district on the Elbe Cycle Path with its suspension and funicular railroad, the Leonhardi Museum and the Loschwitz Elbe Bridge. On the Körnerweg you finally cycle below vineyards and the three Elbe castles Schloss Eckberg, Lingnerschloss and Schloss Albrechtsberg back to the starting point.
