Along with the Altmarkt, the Neumarkt in Dresden is one of the most famous squares in the city centre. Like the Altmarkt, it is one of the oldest settlement centres and for a long time also one of the social centres of Dresden. It is bordered by the Frauenkirche, the Johanneum, the Kulturpalast and the Kurländer Palais.
The Neumarkt is primarily a place for tourists and since the consecration of the Frauenkirche in 2005 also an outstanding sight. Numerous hotels and restaurants, tourist service providers and information points are located here. In 2013, Dresden Information, as the official tourism centre of the state capital, opened a large visitor centre in the basement of the QF Passage at the Frauenkirche as a contact point for Dresdeners and guests.
