The Hauptstraße, once laid out from 1687 to 1732 on the orders of Augustus the Strong, is still one of the city's favourite pedestrian zones;

Starting at the Neustadt end of Augustusbrücke, the statue of the famous Saxon elector Augustus the Strong, the "Golden Horseman", points the way to the main street. This picturesque shopping street, framed by majestic plane trees, harmoniously combines relaxed strolling with shopping pleasure. In addition to shopping experiences, cultural highlights such as the Museum of Dresden Romanticism in the historic Kügelgenhaus attract visitors. An impressive collection dedicated to the artists and works of the Romantic period extends over nine rooms.
