The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert orchestra of the Saxon state capital, substantially shapes the cultural life of Dresden with over 80 concerts in the city every year. The birth of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra is connected to the inauguration of the first concert hall for the citizens on the 29 November in 1870.
In an unusual constellation of professional and amateur musicians four choir ensembles are connected to the orchestra: the Philharmonic Choir and the Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Philharmonic Youth Choir and the Philharmonic Children's Choir. The children's choir is mainly dedicated to international a cappella literature. It is considered to be one of the best ensembles of its kind in Europe and performs on all continents.
