DenkRaum Sophienkirche

At a glance

In the footsteps of St Sophia's Church: a place of remembrance in the heart of Dresden

Discover the DenkRaum Sophienkirche, where one of the most important Gothic churches in Dresden once stood. The history of this special place dates back to the Middle Ages, when Franciscan monks said their prayers here. Later, the magnificent sacred building was elevated to a Protestant court church and finally to a cathedral church.

After its destruction in February 1945, the ruins remained the last surviving Gothic church in Dresden until it was demolished in the 1960s. Today, the modern DenkRaum with its artistically interpreted Busmann Chapel invites visitors to linger and reflect. The impressive architecture combines past and present in a large walk-in sculpture.

Immerse yourself in the eventful history of Dresden and experience how this place still inspires dialogue on contemporary issues today. A multimedia exhibition turns your visit into an exciting journey through the centuries.
