Citizen's office - administrative building in Potschappel station

At a glance

The Potschappel train station, built in 1855, was converted into an administrative building by the city of Freital from 2017 to 2019. On the first floor there is a modern citizens' office with an information desk.

Potschappel station is located not far from Potschappel town hall, the main administrative seat of the town of Freital. The building, which has a quarry stone face wall, was built in connection with the Dresden-Tharandt Albert Railway, which opened in 1855. The importance of the line grew from 1862 with its continuation to Freiberg by the Saxon State Railways. From 1886, passenger traffic in the direction of Wilsdruff/Nossen was added via a branching narrow-gauge line.

In 2014, the city of Freital acquired the vacant station. In 2017, the reconstruction began. The intermediate buildings, which had been destroyed by a bomb hit during World War II, were not rebuilt according to historical models, but according to modern aspects.

In 2019, the city of Freital opened a modern administrative headquarters with a citizens' office, work, consultation and city council caucus rooms.

For long-distance and local traffic, the building continues to fulfill its function as access to the platforms under the responsibility of Deutsche Bahn.
