Bach's organ recital 1736

At a glance

Frauenkirche cantor Matthias Grünert invites you on a musical journey to the baroque Dresden of 1736 with "Bach's Organ Recital".

In 1736, almost to the day, Johann Sebastian Bach played for the first time in the Frauenkirche on the Silbermann organ, which had just been consecrated at the time. Although the programme with which Bach delighted his audience has not survived, Matthias Grünert has put together an organ recital that allows listeners to feel the joy of Bach's organ music and its great impact and inspiration to this day - not least because every organist who plays on the Kern organ climbs the preserved stone staircase that the great master once walked up himself.
