BACH - The silent cantata

At a glance

BACH - The silent cantata

With a "Silent Cantata" composed from various arias and chorales from a total of thirteen Bach cantatas from Leipzig, Julliard School graduate Burak Özdemir (born 1985 in Istanbul) has created a Passion work for himself and his ensemble "Musica Sequenza" that cuts deep into the heart. In this "Özdemir Passion", the shining tenor solo bassoon takes on the role of a singing voice that is able to tell the story of Jesus' suffering without words. Özdemir's arrangements lend a new musical colour to the Easter season of joy in the Frauenkirche; they glow like gentle yet enigmatic northern lights over the familiar musical world of Johann Sebastian Bach.
