BACH - Cantatas for Whitsun

At a glance

For around 1,600 years, Christians have been celebrating Pentecost and the joy of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The history of music is full of examples of composing in spring-like exuberance - including Johann Sebastian Bach, of course. Fanfare-like, radiant trumpets, lively, playful violin runs, interspersed with pensive, lyrical vocal lines make the cantata "Erschallet, ihr Lieder, erklinget, ihr Saiten!" a particularly vital depiction of Pentecostal ecstasy.
