Over the Easter holidays, the Semperoper Dresden will resume the tradition of a series of events dedicated to the composer Richard Strauss: the Richard Strauss Days from 2 to 16 April 2023. Strauss cultivated an intensive artistic and creative relationship with Dresden, with the Staatskapelle, the Dresden Opera House and its music directors. Nine of his 15 operatic works were premiered in Dresden, including "Arabella" and "Der Rosenkavalier". A stroll through Pirna's old town, for example on the well-signposted Canaletto Trail, can be a day-filling programme that we definitely recommend. There are many exciting historical details to discover in the beautifully renovated old town, and numerous eateries at the market invite you to enjoy regional delicacies, such as the Café Canaletto with its stunning soft ice cream variations and a view of the old town, which inspired its namesake Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, to create his famous painting "The Market Square of Pirna" 270 years ago. Visitors to Dresden can see history in a completely different way through VR glasses in several places. The 3D experience museum "Zwinger Xperience" tells the story of the Dresden Zwinger since 1719 in panoramic projections and at a virtual reality station, while the multimedia experience "Fortress Xperience" presents the history of Dresden's city fortifications virtually and acoustically. When it comes to the question of where to find the best Dresdner Eierschecke, opinions in Dresden are divided. Everyone swears by their favourite. The regional cake with the particularly fluffy topping of beaten eggs should definitely be tried, preferably at a different bakery every day. If you are looking for a gift with a very special connection to Dresden, we recommend tickets for the Elbhangfest Dresden from 23 to 25 June 2023. This will not only provide the recipient with good cultural entertainment, but also a traditional event in Dresden. As in the previous year, the Elbhangfest e.V. association must make the organisation of the festival dependent on the success of advance sales and sell at least twelve thousand tickets by mid-April. Although the Dresden Zwinger is one of the most famous and most visited sights in Germany, a visit to the DRESDNER RESIDENCE CONCERTS in the Walled Pavilion of the Zwinger promises a relaxed, almost intimate atmosphere.
