Fasanenschlösschen

At a glance

The Pheasant Castle was built in 1782 in rococo style and stands in the pheasantry of the Moritzburg castle park. The two-story country palace is the smallest palace in Saxony and is one of the most significant German monuments.

The Pheasant Palace is connected to Moritzburg Palace by a direct visual axis 2.5 kilometers long. Idyllically situated on the castle pond, the late baroque palace in the chinoiserie style once served Frederick August III of Saxony as a summer residence. Today, as the only originally preserved rococo palace in the Dresden area, the Fasanenschlösschen is one of the most important historical attractions in the area. A special feature of the castle is its own miniature harbor as well as the picturesque lighthouse, which was built especially for the re-enactment of sea battles. Last but not least, it is also the precious interior decoration that makes the Pheasant Castle a worthwhile destination for an excursion. The castle, which despite its diminutive size is fully equipped, impresses in the interior with its worldwide unique wall coverings of feathers, straw, beads and Chinese embroidery. The rooms have been faithfully restored and some have original furnishings as well as a reconstructed collection of bird taxidermy in the dining room.

The interiors can be visited only on a guided tour. Guided tours take place at the following times:

  • Monday through Friday between 10:00 and 17:00, always on the hour.
  • Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10:00 to 18:00 every half hour.

In addition, the small ballroom of the Fasanenschlösschen is also available as a location for weddings.

The extensive park around the Fasanenschlösschen with its natural surroundings invites you to romantic walks. Not far from the castle is the former court kitchen building, which is now used as a visitor center. Among other things, tickets for the Pheasant's Castle can be purchased here.
